Rate is calculated thus:

Students leaving without diploma or qualifications X 100
All students leaving secondary school, or general youth training

Total of students leaving secondary school, or general youth training, is made up as follows:

  1. leavers with a diploma or qualifications, i.e. students who obtain a diploma (DES, DEP,ASP) or qualification (CFER, ISPJ, AFP,CFMAS, CFPT)
  2. leavers without a diploma or qualification

Leavers without a diploma or qualification meet the following criteria:

  1. have not obtained, during the year under consideration, either a diploma or a qualification;
  2. have not re-enrolled, anywhere in Quebec during the following year, either in general training, for youth or adults, nor in vocational training, nor in college.

Leavers without a diploma or qualification include those leaving due to migration out of Quebec, or death or other causes apart from dropping out.
The index of this chart, which treats leaving without diploma or qualification as an event, is calculated based on students enrolled in general youth training. Consequently, it is different from the school dropout rate, which is based on age.
The latter index (fiche 2.6 of Education Indicators), which shows the state of dropout at a given age, is calculated based on the overall population (proportion of young people of a given age who do not have a diploma and are not in school).
The territory of the Anglophone school commissions marked with a (2) extend over more than one administrative region.
The overall data for these commissions are included in the administrative region in which the school commission is mentioned.
The data by administrative region reflect the sum of the corresponding school commissions.
Consequently, the results by administrative region only concern students in the public system.
